Privacypolicy

Lettoo is a spelling and reading app for children, published by RealHat Apps. It is built so that there is nothing to collect in the first place.

• No accounts, no sign-up, no email address, no password.
• No advertising of any kind, and no advertising ID.
• No analytics, no tracking, no third-party services watching your child.
• Your child's name, chosen animal, progress and settings stay on the phone.
• Lettoo works completely offline. It does not need the internet to teach.
• The one exception is the microphone, and it is switched off until a grown-up turns it on. It is explained in full below.

Lettoo saves the following on the device itself, in the app's own private storage:

None of this is sent anywhere. RealHat Apps cannot see it, and no server of ours ever receives it. Uninstalling Lettoo deletes all of it.

• The name and animal a child picks when they start. You may use a nickname or a first name only; Lettoo never asks for a surname, an age, a birthday, a photo or an email address.
• Which words have been seen, which are mastered and which need more practice, plus feathers earned and games unlocked.
• Settings such as the chosen voice, letter case, timer length and whether the microphone is on.

Lettoo has a mode where a child can say a word or spell it out loud instead of tapping letters. This is optional and it is switched OFF when the app is installed. It only works after a grown-up turns it on in Settings.

When it is on and a child speaks, Lettoo hands the sound to the speech recognition service built into the phone — the same one the keyboard's microphone button uses — which turns it into text and gives the text back to Lettoo. On most Android phones that service is provided by Google, and it may send the audio to Google over the internet to do the conversion. This is handled entirely by the phone's operating system and is governed by the phone maker's and Google's own privacy policies, not by ours.

Lettoo itself never records, saves, uploads or keeps any audio. It receives the recognised word, compares it with the word on screen, and forgets it.

If you would rather no sound ever leaves the phone, leave the microphone switched off. Every part of Lettoo works without it: children tap letter tiles instead.

Lettoo teaches offline. The voices, words and stories are inside the app when you install it.

The app connects to the internet in only two situations: if a grown-up chooses to download an extra voice from realhatapps.com, and if the microphone has been switched on, in which case the phone's own speech service may use the network as described above. Downloading a voice transfers only the sound files; no personal information is sent with the request.

Lettoo is made for children, including children under 13, and is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Google Play Families policy, and the GDPR provisions for children.

We do not collect, store or transmit personal information from children. We do not build profiles, we do not show interstitial or rewarded ads, we do not use the advertising identifier, and we have no third-party advertising or analytics code in the app at all.

Because nothing is collected, there is no data for a parent to request, correct or delete from us. Removing everything the app holds is as simple as uninstalling it. If you have a question about this, write to us at the address below.

Lettoo contains no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no payment of any kind. It does not contain advertising. The only external link is to this privacy policy, and it sits in the settings screen where grown-ups look, not in a child's path through the app.

Lettoo stores its data in the app's private area of the device, which other apps cannot read. RealHat Apps runs no servers for Lettoo and holds no database of users, so there is no central store of children's information that could be breached.

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's update description on Google Play.
